Finding Calm in the Storm: Mindfulness and Meditation for Healthcare Providers
As we all know, these last few months have been unprecedented, challenging us all in myriad ways. Nurses and healthcare providers have been on the frontlines and their efforts have not gone unnoticed. They deserve a break, and it looks like they will have to get their CEU’s virtually for the forseeable future. The good news is that they can do that from home. Melanie Carvell, has recorded a program that’s been approved for 1 CEU in her home state of North Dakota, and we’re offering it to you, as well, free of charge, with all of the qualifications for you to get it approved in your state.
We know healthcare is not always “healthy” for the provider. Demands faced by professionals can include heavy caseloads, limited control over their work environments, long hours, constant healthcare information technology demands, and the ever-changing stress of the pandemic crisis. Scientific studies show that simple mindfulness and meditation tools can be very effective self-care strategies to cope with difficult emotions, burnout, and depression. Our self-care is not selfish; It is the most important thing we can do for those we love, those we work with, and the patients we take care of.
This insightful presentation includes simple meditation practices that can significantly improve our wellbeing, and mindful communication tools that can enrich our personal and professional lives as well as our ability to connect with and care for our patients.
